History Walking Tour Dubrovnik

You heard so much about “Pearl of Adriatic” and now you are finally here, so you want to soak up as much as you can of its glorious history, see its mighty defending walls and find out how the locals live inside the walls - our experienced guide will reveal you all the secrets!

Guided walk through Dubrovnik old town accompanied by licensed local guide will start from central point – Pile gate. At the fountain next to Dubravka restaurant your guide will be waiting in recognizable shirt and holding the sign Vidokrug.

Tour will begin with a brief introduction, showing you sights outside Dubrovnik walls, like fort Lovrijenac and Bokar before entering in town through Pile gate. Right after entering old town you will be introduced with the way of living in Republica Ragusa, see Onofrio’s fountain which was main source of drinkable water till beginning of 20th century, learn how Franciscans developed medicine in the oldest functioning pharmacy in Franciscan monastery and walk along side streets towards Cathedral. Your guide will even show you some Game of Thrones, Robin Hood and Star Wars filming locations. In Old town port you will see how modern fleet took over primacy from traditional but still sailing wooden made galley. The walk will finish on Luza square where you will learn of Rector’s palace, St. Blaise and Sponsa palace. From here you can continue along the main street Stradun on your own.

Because this tour is only an hour and a half long and doesn't include a trek around the City Walls, it has minimal stairs and is an easy walk for everyone, even on a hot day. For the more adventurous guests who are interested in a guided City Walls tour, ask your guide or booking agent about a private tour.

This tour on request can be organized as a private option, with departure, inclusions and itinerary according your wishes.

One of 4 forts on the City Walls and its highest point, Minceta Tower, offers a spectacular view over Mt. Srd from one side and Old Town and the Adriatic Sea from the other side. Standing proud above the City, it is an eternal symbol of unconquerable Dubrovnik.

Back in the 11th century, the Venetians wanted to build a fort where Fort Lovrijenac currently is. If they had succeeded, they would have kept Dubrovnik under their power, but the people of Dubrovnik were clever enough to anticipate their intentions and built it before they arrived at the City.
